George Frix is a native of Monroe, but he has been in the Emanuel County area since the age of 12 when his family moved here in 1989.
He is a product of Swainsboro High Shcool and East Georgia College. He went back to school to get his associate degree in criminal justice in 2021.
Most of his working years have been spent in public safety.
George's career started right here in town with Swainsboro Police Department and Emanuel County 911 in 1998. He has worked for and held rank with several other agencies, including the state K-9 unit, the sheriff’s offices in Toombs and Montgomery counties, and Uvalda Police Department.
In 2013, George rejoined the local police force as a detective. He retired in 2021, at which point he started his career with the county code enforcement officer.
This past January, he was promoted to Director of Building, Planning, and Code Enforcement. He calls his director predecessor, Stephen Graham, as well as Bruce Kirby, the City of Swainsboro's building inspector, great mentors.
George has several hobbies. He’s an avid deer hunter and an amateur gunsmith, blacksmith, and bladesmith. He also makes holsters and trains dogs.
He and his wife of 10 years, Julie, live in Kite. They have two children, 22-year-old Cole and 4-year-old Alafair.
