Agriculture and Natural Resources
Agriculture is at the heart of Emanuel County, and the Extension Office’s Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) programs are here to ensure that farmers, landowners, and gardeners have the tools they need to succeed. Savannah Tanner, our ANR agent, leads these efforts with expertise and a deep commitment to the agricultural community.
Testing Services
The ANR program provides essential testing services to help you make the most of your land, crops, and resources. These services include:
- Soil testing to evaluate the health of your soil and determine the nutrients needed to maximize productivity.
- Well water testing to ensure your water is safe and suitable for agricultural or personal use.
- Forage and feed sampling to analyze the quality of your livestock’s feed, helping you make informed decisions about animal nutrition.
- Other agricultural tests and services, including plant tissue sampling, nematode testing, and poultry litter analysis, to address specific needs. The Extension Office can also identify plants, weeds, insects, and diseases to help you tackle challenges effectively.
Licensing Services
Staying certified and compliant is critical, and the Extension Office is here to guide you. A few types of licenses they can help you with include:
- Private pesticide licensing, which can be completed online at your convenience through the Georgia Professional Certifications website. Instructions are available to make the process easy. (Commercial pesticide licensing is not issued or tested locally in Emanuel County, but the Extension Office can connect you with the Georgia Department of Agriculture for assistance.)
- GATE card assistance, which is a Georgia Department of Agriculture matter, but Extension staff are available to help you navigate the application process for the Georgia Agricultural Tax Exemption (GATE) program.
Extension Publications
The ANR program also provides access to a wide range of educational resources from the University of Georgia. These publications cover everything from fencing and pasture management to livestock feeding, soil chemistry, crop sustainability, and more. This entire archive is designed to help you succeed in managing your land and agricultural operations.
