Storm Debris Clean-Up Project Nears Deadline

County News Posted on February 21, 2025

We’re now entering the last phase of storm debris pick-up from Hurricane Helene in Emanuel County, and we need your help now more than ever. Here’s what we need to you do: At this time, stop placing debris by the roadside. (If you live in a city, please comply with your normal process for placing your routine yard maintenance debris.)

We’ve noticed an increase in new, green debris like freshly cut trees and limbs. The storm happened almost exactly 5 months ago, and anything still out there from Helene wouldn’t be green today. This new debris should not be placed by the road. FEMA will not fund green material at this point.

Here’s why we’re asking you to now stop placing debris by the road:

✅ The State of Georgia has stepped in to cover costs that would have otherwise fallen on our county. That’s a huge help!

✅ However, there’s a deadline. We will be able to meet the deadline—but not if new material continues to be brought out to roads that we have already covered.

We continue to work with TFR to identify and clear remaining areas that still need attention. We’re still actively participating in this project, and our goal from the start remains the same: 100 percent collection. But again, we need your help to make that happen.

It is amazing how much work has been completed in such a short period of time, and we appreciate everyone’s patience. With this final push, we can wrap up storm clean-up for good.
