The magistrate court is empowered by state law to hold hearings and impose sentencing on those in violation of county ordinances.
According to the same state law, magistrate court may impose fines up to $1,000 per offense, a jail sentence for up to 60 days per offense, or both.
Additionally, the magistrate court can choose to delay imposing a fine or jail time for up to a year, as long as the defendant meets certain conditions related to their offense. This does not mean penalties are given in every case but rather these are the maximum penalties the court could impose for violations of local ordinances.
