Obtaining an alcohol license in Emanuel County is a detailed process designed to ensure compliance with local and state regulations. Here's how to apply:
Request the Application.
Contact the county clerk to request an alcohol licensing packet. It’s recommended to call ahead before visiting the office. Currently, alcohol license applications are only available in paper form due to the sensitive nature of the information required.Gather Your Documents.
Collect required items, such as a valid driver’s license, business bill of sale, and any additional information needed for the application.Complete and Submit the Application.
Fill out the application thoroughly and return it to the county clerk, who will review it for accuracy and completeness.Attend Your Appointment.
The county clerk will schedule an appointment with the county administrator to review your application, explain the remaining steps, and determine a tentative timeframe for licensing.Schedule and Complete Site Inspections and a Background Check.
Upon approval by the county administrator, the county clerk will notify building inspection and fire marshal staff to schedule site inspections with you. These inspections will ensure compliance. If approved, the county clerk will process a background check through the sheriff’s office.Participate in the Public Hearing Process.
After inspections and background check approval, the county clerk will arrange for two advertisements of your application in the county’s legal organ. A public hearing will be held during the next-soonest county commission meeting following the last advertisement. During that meeting, the application will be considered by vote. While attendance is not required, it is encouraged.Pay the Fee and Receive Your License.
If approved, the county clerk will contact you to schedule a time to pay the required fee and pick up your sealed license. The county clerk will also upload proof of your license to the state alcohol licensing portal.
Important Notes
Alcohol licenses are non-transferable and must be renewed annually. Reminder letters are sent each November. For renewals, visit the county clerk’s office to pay the fee and collect a new license.
