State Championship Teams

Wall of Champions

Over the years, 21 teams from Emanuel County have secured state championships, marking an impressive legacy in local sports. Most of these victories were achieved when the recreation department was a joint effort between the city and the county.

The earliest win dates back to 1972 in baseball while the most recent triumphs in 2024 are particularly significant; they were the first championships won under the independently-operated Emanuel County Recreation Department. This historic year not only saw a remarkable three-peat by three different age groups in softball but also a record-breaking eight teams—four baseball and four softball—competing in their respective state tournaments.

Almost 300 individuals from Emanuel County, including former players-turned-coaches, can proudly call themselves champions with some earning the title multiple times. Many of these athletes share familial ties, and numerous have gone on to play at higher levels beyond the local recreation scene, underscoring the department’s role as a true starting point for mastering fundamentals.

All 21 championship teams are enshrined in the lobby of the Connie Kight Gymnasium, and their hardware is on display in the adjoining trophy room. Additionally, the baseball and softball teams are honored on the Wall of Champions, which greets you as you enter the Ronnie Womack Softball Complex.
