District 5 – 2025 Vice Chairman Timmy Oliver

Timmy OliverTimothy "Timmy" Oliver made his first and only political bid in November 2021 when he decided to run for the District 5 county commission seat. Though he was initially indecisive about throwing his hat in the ring, once he committed, Timmy was all in—for what he calls the good of the people.

“I know it sounds cliché, but I like to serve others. Whether it’s helping someone change a tire on the side of the road or running into a home that’s on fire to save someone’s life or their belongings, being able to help somebody just does my heart good. Being a commissioner is a way for me to lend a helping hand on a bigger scale.”

    * Denotes classes required for certification

Timmy first appeared on the county commissioner ballot in May 2022 for the primary election. The race went to a runoff in June, which Timmy won, and with no opposition from the other side, he was the sole candidate on the November 2022 ticket and was consequently elected. He took his oath of office in January 2023.

Within two months, Timmy completed the Association County Commissioners of Georgia's 66 required course hours for certification, making him one of the fastest to ever do so. His favorite aspect of being a commissioner is focusing on public safety, which aligns with his nine years of experience as a volunteer firefighter and first responder.

Yet, that's just a small part of his overall goal as a commissioner. He says he's always striving with every decision to leave the county in a better position than when he took office.

One key lesson Timmy has learned since taking office is that the wheels of government turn slowly. He says,

"Things don’t move as quickly in government as they do in the private world. There are certain ways you have to do things, and that takes time, which can be a double-edged sword in that you’re following protocol, but you’re also sitting on go. It can be a little frustrating, but all you can do is the best you can do. For me, that means staying in communication with people, keeping a pulse on what's happening and what's coming down the pike, and being ready to act when I need to so that I'm never preventing something from moving forward when the time finally comes."

This year, Timmy is serving by way of appointment by the commission chairman on the airport authority, the Twin City-Emanuel County Recreation Department board, and the Heart of Georgia Altamaha Regional Commission.

Though technically born in Candler County, Timmy has spent his entire life in Emanuel County. Growing up, he was actively involved in local recreation, a passion that continues today as he volunteer coaches recreation football and baseball. Timmy lives in Twin City with his wife, Tiffany, and their four children. A proud 2000 graduate of Emanuel County Institute and supporter of the Bulldogs both young and old, he also previously served five years on the Twin City Elementary school council.

In 2017, Timmy was honored in Emanuel County’s prestigious 20 Under 40 class presented by The Forest-Blade, recognizing him as one of 20 proven leaders in the community under the age of 40-years-old.

Timmy has been in the workforce since high school. In 2006, he took a leap into entrepreneurship, becoming a small business owner in Twin City. Since then, he and his business partners have expanded their homegrown business into two other states.

Fun Fact: Timmy is a scuba diving enthusiast with an open water certification through Scuba Diving International (SDI). He’s also passionate about cooking; his specialties are jalapeño poppers and fried pickles.
