Timber Bond

If you plan to harvest timber in Emanuel County, you must meet local requirements to comply with the county's timber harvest notification ordinance. In accordance with OCGA § 12-6-24, Emanuel County adopted this ordinance to ensure responsible timber harvesting. Under this local ordinance, you MUST have a timber bond to harvest timber in Emanuel County. Here’s how to comply:

  1. Report Your Timber Harvesting Activity to the State.

Before beginning operations, complete the Notice of Timber Harvesting Activity Form on the Georgia Forestry Commission’s website.

  2. File a $5,000 Timber Bond with Emanuel County.

Obtain a surety bond or an irrevocable line of credit for $5,000, then submit documentation to the tax assessor's office and the county clerk. Bonds may be filed in person, by mail, fax, or email.

  3. Keep Your Bond Current.

If harvesting extends into a new year, submit a new bond or letter of credit within 5 business days of January 1.
Replace revoked bonds within five business days to continue operations. Repeated revocations may increase the required bond amount to $10,000.

  4. Notify the County of Changes and Completion.

If your harvesting activities change (e.g., scope or extent), notify the county within 3 business days.
Report completion of harvesting within 24 hours of finishing your operations.

Important Reminders:

  • The county will not send expiration or renewal notices.
  • Failure to comply with these requirements may result in fines up to $1,000, imprisonment, or community service.
