Important Information
Hours of Operation
Emanuel County’s 20 active dumpsites are open 24/7 for the convenience of our residents. Whether you need to drop off household garbage early in the morning or late at night, these locations are available whenever you need them.
Resident-Only Access
Emanuel County dumpsites are a resource reserved exclusively for county residents. To ensure fair use and proper management, individuals using these locations must comply with resident-only access policies. Please note that illegal use by non-residents can result in penalties or restricted access.
The resident-only policy helps maintain the integrity of our waste management system and reduces strain on county resources. Residents may be required to provide proof of residence if necessary, so keep an ID or utility bill handy when using these facilities. If you notice unauthorized individuals or misuse of a dumpsite, please report the issue to either Emanuel County Solid Waste or Emanuel County Building Inspection & Code Enforcement.
Camera Monitoring
All Emanuel County dumpsites are equipped with security cameras to monitor activity and ensure compliance with county regulations. This system helps prevent misuse, illegal dumping, and other prohibited activities.
Residents are encouraged to follow a "see something, say something" policy. If you witness illegal dumping, unauthorized site usage, or dumpster diving, report the issue immediately to code enforcement or the sheriff's office.
No Dumpster Diving
For the safety and security of all, dumpster diving is strictly prohibited at all dumpsites. Scavenging through waste not only disrupts the operation but also poses health and safety risks. Individuals caught dumpster diving can face ticketing and fines, with penalties potentially reaching up to $500. Violators may also face additional legal consequences depending on the severity of the offense.
To report illegal dumping or dumpster diving, contact code enforcement or the sheriff's office.
Proper Use Guidelines
To keep our dumpsites clean, safe, and efficient, residents are encouraged to follow these simple guidelines:
Bag your trash.
All household garbage should be securely bagged before disposal. This helps prevent spills, odors, and pest issues at the dumpsites.
Dispose only allowed items.
Remember, these sites are for household garbage only. Prohibited items like construction debris, hazardous waste, and electronics must be disposed of elsewhere. Refer to our Special Waste Disposal page for guidance.
Don’t overload dumpsters.
If a dumpster is full, please do not add additional bags on top or around the sides. Overflowing trash creates unsanitary conditions and makes the site difficult to manage. Use another location or notify the Solid Waste Department for assistance.
Avoid illegal dumping.
Placing unauthorized items or dumping waste outside of the dumpsters is considered illegal and may result in fines or penalties. Always follow posted signage for disposal rules.
Respect the site.
Keep the area around the dumpsters clean by taking any leftover bags, boxes, or debris with you. Be mindful of other residents using the site and ensure your trash is properly placed.
By following these guidelines, Emanuel County residents can ensure that dumpsites remain a reliable, clean, and effective resource for all. For questions or concerns, contact the solid waste department directly.
